A Successful Week for BLUERISM at LPS25

At the Living Planet Symposium 2025 (LPS25), the BLUERISM project team, represented by Claire Dufau (CLS Group), Stefan Mühlbauer (EOMAP), and Per Braig (Novaspace), had the opportunity to showcase how Earth Observation (EO) can directly support sustainable coastal tourism and leisure stakeholders.
During the LPS poster session, the team showcased the BLUERISM project, which features four practical use cases developed in close collaboration with stakeholders from the coastal tourism and leisure sectors.

It was wonderful to see all the interest from conference participants and to engage with the community on the work we’ve been developing. Many approached us to share relevant experiences from their own fields, ask insightful questions, and spark ideas for potential future directions. It was incredibly rewarding to see our work resonate with others and to exchange perspectives with such a diverse and knowledgeable audience.

Earth Observation: A Key Enabler of the Blue Economy

Many thanks also go to Dr. Roberto Sabia and Dr. Marie-Hélène Rio from the European Space Agency (ESA), who highlighted BLUERISM during the conference as a prime example of EO’s practical application in fostering a more sustainable coastal economy.
The projects presented at the conference once again emphasised that satellite-based Earth Observation (EO) plays a crucial role in sustainable transformation. By providing continuous, global-scale data, EO facilitates the monitoring of coastal and marine environments, informs policy decisions, and supports long-term ecological resilience.
